Very sad: Cholera outbreak, kills 16, and keeps 172 others in critical condition.

At least, 16 persons at the three camps of the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, within Maiduguri, Borno State, have been confirmed death. While 172 others, are said to be in critical conditions, as a result of Cholera outbreak in the camps.

Reacting to the news in a telephone conversation, the Information Officer of National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mallam Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said cholera, was not the cause of the conditions at the camps, but reported cases of diarrhoea and vomiting.

The affected camps are those housing IDPs from Mafa along Dikwa/Ngala Road.

Health officials at the camp told Vanguard that so far, 16 people had died of the outbreak, while 172 were in serious condition as they work with international organization to bring the situation under control.

One of the health officials working with UNICEF told Vanguard, yesterday: “The situation at the camps is terrible. It was sudden and already a large number has been affected.

“At the last count, we have 16 dead and about 172 affected. We are in an emergency health situation in those camps.”

Boko Haram lays demands of what is needed to free Chibok girls

Speaking to Nigerians in Paris yesterday, the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, revealed that the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, are demanding for the release of one of its leaders, in order for them to free the over 200 abducted Chibok girls.

“They wanted us to release one of their leaders who is a strategic person in developing and making Improvised IEDs that is causing a lot of havoc in the country by blowing people in Churches, Mosque, market places, motor parks and other places. But it’s very important that if we are going to talk to any body, we have to know how much he is worth. Let them bring all the girls and then, we will be prepared to negotiate, I will allow them to come back to Nigeria or to be absolved in the community.

We have to be very careful, the concern we have for the Chibok girls, one only imagine if they got a daughter there between 14 and 18 and for more than one and a half year, a lot of the parents who have died would rather see the graves of their daughters rather the condition they imagine they are in.

This has drawn a lot of sympathy though out the world, that is why this government is getting very hard in negotiating and getting the balance of those who are alive, ” he said

Boko Haram using abducted chibok girls as fighters

If declarations made by a returnee from the camp of the Islamic sect Book Haram are to be believed, then the hope of the Nigerian Government freeing the abducted Chibok girls, is very slim.

The returnee, Adamu Tabitha, who is said to be the Wife of one of the Sects Commander, after being forced to marry him, was amongst the people the Nigeria Army saved and handed over to the Borno State Government last week.

Speaking exclusively yesterday, Tabitha disclosed that due to the fact that she mingled with the girls from time to time, she can boldly disclose that the abducted girls, are now being used as Book Haram fighters.

She said: “They killed my father and brother. They took me along with my mother but at some point we were separated. Since then, I’ve not set my eyes on my mother. When he (Abu Kabir, my Boko Haram husband), wanted to marry me, he gave the women who were  taking care of us N5,000 as my bride price.

“Before the marriage, I was asked to convert to Islam. I did so because many who refused were killed and they gave me a name (Samira). I answered the name but I know my true name is my real name. When we were rescued I told the soldiers that my name is Tabitha.

“They asked me if I am one of the wives of the Boko Haram and I told them my story. They felt for me and they treated me well.

“Many people asked me since we were liberated, particularly about the pregnancy. I don’t know the right answer to give because I actually do not know what to do. It has happened. I don’t know what the authorities would do about it but I think it is too late to abort it. But my prayer is that I give birth safely.”

“Many people I know were working as volunteers in the camp, including staff and students of American University of Nigeria, who sustained minor injuries from the blast.

“Today’s attack is an attempt to break the spirits of the people who came to seek refuge. The perpetrators will know no peace. We refuse to be broken. We will win the war against terrorism. We shall overcome!” Atiku said.

Pastor rapes 16 year old sick girl in Lagos

A pastor named Abraham Sunday, was arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, Ojokoro Police Division, at Adalemo Estate, in the Toll Gate area, on the Lagos – Abeokuta Expressway, for allegedly raping a 16 year old girl whose name was given as Kike.

Sunday, who is the pastor of Christ In All Nations Church in Adalemo, was arrested on Wednesday, September 2, by the Ojokoro Police Division, and was immediately transfered to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba.

The ugly incident, was said to have occurred on 28 of August, when Sunday, took Kike, who was sick to his house for a deliverance prayer at Adalemo Estate.

The mother of the victim, who said Sunday, was a family friend, became worried when she did not hear from her daughter for a long time.

The incident, was reported to the Ojokoro Police  Division by the landlord of the house which Sunday had taken the girl to, in order to rape her.

After the matter was reported, Kike, was taken to a hospital, were it was disclosed that she had suffered some injuries on her private part, as a result of a forceful sex. It was then, that the operatives of the Ojokoro Police Division, arrested the pastor.

A source, said “The pastor was like a foster father to the girl. She was ill and had gone to a hospital in the area. While returning from the hospital, she boarded the same bus with the pastor, who said he would take her to a place for prayers.

“Since the suspect was a family friend, she did not doubt him. So, they went to the pastor’s apartment, where he camped and raped her for
three days. The victim’s mother did not even know about the deliverance prayer.

“On Monday, the landlord and some neighbours got suspicious of the pastor’s arrangement with the teenager and they alerted a non-
governmental organisation in the area, which in turn invited the police. The girl was rescued and rushed to a hospital, where a medical test confirmed rape. The suspect was arrested immediately.”

The DSVRT Coordinator, Lola Viviour-Adeniyi, said the team had taken up the rehabilitation of the victim.

She said, “It was an NGO, Rubies Ink, that brought the matter to our attention.

“The girl was taken away for prayer. She was in the pastor’s house at the Adalemo area for three days, and during that period, he raped her.

“The DSVRT reached out to the victim’s mother, but she maintained that she would not pursue any case. While admitting that the pastor defiled her daughter, the mother said the pastor had a three-month-old baby, and she did not want him to be jailed.

“However, we informed the police at Ojokoro division that the state government was interested
in the matter.

“This prompted the transfer of the suspect to the SDCI, Yaba.

“At present, the girl is undergoing treatment. She was taken to the Mirabel Centre.”

The public relations officer of the Lagos State Police, confirmed the incident, and said that the pastor has been arrested, and transferred to  SDCI, Yaba.
