I have been declaring my assets since 1975, and i have declared it four times. – Muhammadu Buhari

The  President, on Monday in Accra Ghana, challenged journalist who feel that he has not fully declared his assets, to investigate the details of all his properties in a lawful way. He also said he has been declaring his assets since 1975, and during that period, he has declared his assets four times.

“I recall that in 1975 when late Murtala Mohammed became the Head of State, we were lined up in the corridor – governors, ministers,
members of the Supreme Military Council – and officials of the Ministry of Justice were brought and every individual was made to declare his assets.

“So right now, all heads of state and government, governors, ministers, permanent secretaries will have to declare their assets because it is a
constitutional requirement.” Buhari said.

He said assets declaration, is a constitutional requirement for Civil – Servants, to publicly declare their assets.

“In Nigeria, it is a constitutional issue
and that is why I am blaming you gentlemen of the press. If you really want to do investigative journalism, you don’t have to worry me at this
stage; I have declared my assets four times.

“When I was governor in 1975, I declared. After being Minister of Petroleum and as a member of
Supreme Military Council, I declared. When I was Head of State and now as a President, I also declared.

“I have declared my assets and all that I have four times, and you (the press) have the right to go and demand for my declaration. Instead, I am being harassed.” He added

“I will talk to her, scold her any sometimes beat her. There was a time I told my husband.

“All he said was that if she was acting strangely I should take her to any of these white garment churches. I was alarmed when one day, while we were in the strangely room, she started touching and playing with herself.

“Immediately, I called her inside the room andriod asked her what the problem was. I asked her if anyone was fiddling with her private parts. She said it was her father that always touched her private parts and that after touching her private parts, he would give her money.

“Members of his family were shouting, said that I had no right to report the case to the police, that it was a family issue that should be
treated as one. They pressurized me till I withdrew the case, after which he promised not to defile our daughter again.

“After I withdrew the case, my husband began to beat the children at the slightest provocation. And at times, he would beat them for no tangible reason.

“Two weeks ago, it happened again. I asked her what she did for her father that made him gives her money without giving her siblings. That was
when she said that daddy gave her the money after touching her private part.

time they did, their daddy kept beating them.

We did not kill any Massob member – Navy

Rear Admiral Stanley Ogoigbe, who is the Flag Officer commanding central Naval command, yesterday, said the alleged killing of a massob member by navy personnel,  were unfounded.

Ogoigbe, who interacted with news men in the commands headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, said it became very necessary that he clears the air on the alleged killing of MASSOB members by the Navy. Describing such allegations as baseless.

Some reports, had it that there was a violent confrontation between the Navy personnel and members of the MASSOB group at Onitsha, Anambra State. As a result of the confrontation, it was alleged that 2 members of the group, were killed by the Navy.

But the FOC dismissed the claim insisting that the navy personnel only shot into the air to scare a large number of MASSOB members who
were on a protest march towards the Onitsha head bridge as the protesting youths had already overrun the police on duty and did not injure, let alone, killing a soul.

He said, “No such act was ever committed. The MASOB group was on a protest march. They overran the policemen on duty and were coming
towards the navy personnel. As they approached, the navy fired warning shots into the air to scare them away and they all dashed away. Nobody died in the process.

“To our surprise, MASSOB started claiming that the navy has killed two of their men. I don’t know what they wish to achieve with this propaganda, fabricating stories against the navy.

“We just want all well meaning Nigerians to know that no MASSOB member was killed in that area of Anambra State where the navy was
keeping peace and carrying out their legitimate duties”.

N45bn needed to reach 8,000MW of electricity supply

According to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, the federal government, needs to invest N15bn annually for the next three years, to generate 8,000MW(megawatts) of electricity in the country.

The acting managing director of the company, Dr. Atiku Abubakar, in an interview with newsmen, stated that the federal government will need a total of N45bn to execute this project.

Abubakar said, “The country will need to invest N15bn within two to three years to achieve 8,000MW. We have shortlisted them and now we
are building the framework for repaying the investors.”

Abubakar, also noted that the company, has identified 130 stalled projects, and amongst the 130, the company, has identified 30, that are very critical.

He said the company, is talking to government and other sources, in other to raise funds for the execution of the project.

Abubakar, who said that 8,000MW, is the expected transmission capacity within the short – run, also added that the privatisation of the TCN was likely going to be in the long term as
discussions on this was not on the table for now.

He had also said, “We are making all efforts to ensure that funds are raised outside the appropriation of government; we have investors who are ready to come into the country to invest in our schemes.”

Pdp tells Buhari, Osibanjo. Your assets, are yet to be declared.

The People Democratic Party (PDP), has describe the The assets declarations made by President Buhari and Vice President Osibanjo as a deceptive window-dressing to hoodwink unsuspecting Nigerians.

The PDP, noted that President Muhammadu Buhari, and his Vice Yemi Osinbajo, didn’t provide copies of their declared assets, detailing the exact nature and value of their assets.

In a statement by the national publicity secretary of the PDP, chief Olisa Metuh on friday, said

“the release of a mere list of belongings falls short of credibility, transparency and anti-corruption
standards as well as exposes the proclivity of the present administration for deception.”

“We have noted the release of a flimsy list of belongings of President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo by the Presidency, who want such to pass as the public declaration of assets as pledged by the President.

“Nigerians are not deceived by this poor attempt at window-dressing designed by the Presidency to hoodwink the unsuspecting Nigerian populace in a desperate bid to shore up its diminished image.

“We ask, is the resort to a mere list, instead of true copies of the declaration not a ploy to give the Presidency a window for denial in
consonance with their widely observed inclination for flip flopping, backtracking and brazen denials of their statements and actions?

“All we want is credibility, integrity and sincerity of purpose. We are not questioning how a President, who by December last year, declared that he had only N1 million in his account, could suddenly now list N30 million in the same bank account by May 29, and after an expensive campaign; we are not yet demanding the public declaration of his assets in his wife’s name.

“We are not even applauding the multiplication of his cows from 150 to 250 in a space of three months, arising from his dual and conflicting
pronouncements on this issue. What the PDP and discerning Nigerians demand is for Mr. President to always stand by his words and pledge.

“Mr. President, this is a mere list of your belongings and not public declaration of assets in fulfillment of your covenant with Nigerians”.
